Fy-fee-fo-fum fiddle, can you solve my riddle?

Tonight, we (except for Ronnie and Anna) went to Uncle Rich's viewing. Tears, hugs, and lots of kleenexs later, they closed and we had to go home. But my mom had been craving ice cream, and we just so happened to be near one of her favorite old ice cream places that we haven't eaten at since before we moved. We stopped in (Meghan, Mum and I; dad had to pick up the littles from a friends house) and had a scoop of ice cream. I had Birthday Cake, which is sooooo good, and while we were eating, the owner (a sweet, nice old man who is very personable) came over to chat. There were no more customers (being it was 9 PM), and it just so happened his grandfather survived the TITANIC! Oh my word, I was so surprised! He told us stories about his work at the history museum as a docent, and kept us laughing the entire time. He was a FUNNY person, so he decided to give me a riddle. I mulled over this riddle for 30 minutes, then FINALLY got it. I am going to post the riddle and give ya'll one week to comment with what you think the answer is. I am not going to give any hints, but here it is:
There are three kinds of people in the world: those that can count and those who cannot.

Waitin' on a Woman

I just wrote a very muddled, personal and tear-filled entry in my journal but there are a few things from the entry I'd like to share....some lyrics that came to mind:

It's a sweet song by Brad Paisley entitled, "Waitin on a Woman." Uncle Rich is probably so impatient to see Aunt Helen again. As soon as I read Sara's post I began to cry. For my dear Aunt Helen who is heartbroken right now. I sort of smiled bitter-sweetly to myself, while the tears came, as I wrote this in my journal:
"Uncle Rich and Baba (my great-grandmother, Aunt Helen's sister) are probably doing a polka while they wait for Aunt Helen."

Please keep our Aunt Helen and cousins in your prayers...especially Aunt Helen, who just lost the one and only love of her life.

To explain the lyrics that Sara posted below....my Uncle Rich passed away rather suddenly this evening. He would have been 86. He had advanced altzeimers and was recently moved into a special home. I was with my Aunt Helen tonight ( the love of his life for more than 66 years) because it was her 86th birthday today. I called to wish her a happy birthday, and almost didn't go over....but she asked me to come and visit her , and I am so glad that I did! I pray for peace and comfort and strength for Aunt Helen, and my cousins tonight...and in the hard days ahead. Below is a poem that I read recently in my 'Streams in the Desert' devotional...I'll be referring to it often in the days ahead. I'll be away from the blog for the next few days. God bless....~Sue~

Contentment, gratitude and visual reminders....

I've been thinking a lot of contentment and gratitude lately. With the economy and this recession/depression, everyone wonders what the future might bring. I know, with my husbands company, his contract is up in 10 months...the general concensus around work is that these guys will probably not have a job then....but, everytime I start to think about these things, God provides for our family in a big way...almost to say " I love you, I will ALWAYS meet your needs...TRUST ME!" While buying a birthday gift for me sister, I saw this plaque in the store on clearance and had to buy it...it sits right by my rocker, and faces my husband's chair. It says " Thank God for what you have...Trust God for what you need." I'm one of those people who like visual reminders! LOL I came across the survey below and had to post it....it really made me think...again, a timely reminder that we are RICH....RICH in blessings!!!!

These are all pictures of 'visual reminders' that we have around our home. We are the typical "kinesthetic' learners....we need to see it, hear it, and do it ourselves....so for us, these visual reminders are subconcious ways to remind us of what the Bible says is important...and to count our blessings everyday, all day...to cultivate contentment and gratitude. No matter what our future holds, we know WHO holds our futures...and we trust Him. Have a very blessed Sabbath rest day! ~Sue~

Thrifted T-shirt grocery bags!

Just saw this, and had to share! (wish I had a picture)

Take an old T-shirt....cut off the collar and sleeves, turn it inside-out and sew up the bottom....Voila! A grocery bag from a t-shirt! Cool idea! (MOPS craft)

Anyhow, here’s the full tutorial for anyone who wants to go the extra mile:

You will need two T-shirts of the same size and basic sewing supplies. Decide which T-shirt will be on the exterior of the bag and which will be the lining.

Lay the exterior T-shirt flat on a table and cut off the sleeves, removing the seam that connected the sleeves to the body of the shirt. Also cut around the neckline, making that opening bigger as well. The shirt’s original shoulders will become the tote bag’s handles when you’re done.

Place the exterior shirt on top of your other shirt, which will be the bag’s lining. Follow the same steps, cutting off the sleeves and neckline of the second shirt, but leave about an inch more of the fabric than you did with the exterior shirt.

Now, place the lining shirt inside the exterior shirt, either with the logo facing out or in – it’s up to you. Line the shirts up as best you can, and then fold the lining fabric over the exterior fabric all along the old sleeve and neck openings. Fold the fabric over twice, pinning as you go, then sew.

Finally, turn the bag inside out and sew the bottoms of the shirts together. I rounded the sides so the bag would have a bubble effect and look less like a T-shirt.

Turn the bag right side out again and you’re ready to load it with Cheerios and bananas.

Can't wait to make some of these...who doesn't have old t-shirts around?! Even if you don't, thrift stores are full of them! Visited my mom today and she had bags of clothes that were given to her.....we went thru them, and I ended up getting a whole bag full of t-shirts to make into totes! The girls and I can't wait!

Also, saw an article (can't remember where) to take an old t-shirt, cut it from the bottom up, into circle strips....join as you would two rubber bands, then knit or crochet them together into a rag rug.

I am loving the creativity of reusing, remaking or otherwise "Thrifting"....I've always loved thrifting, but now that it is the "in thing" to do...there are tons of creative ideas everywhere! Happy Thrifting! ~Sue~
